There is no Constitutional requirement that a Supreme Court Justice has to be a lawyer.
And, shocker of all shockers, the nominee doesn't have to have the American Bar Association Seal of Approval.
If Obama wants to really break the SCOTUS mold, I hope he appoints someone who isn't a lawyer.
It's about time us non-lawyers got one of our own on the court.

ReplyDeleteI like your out-of-the-box thinking. Now, if only President Obama could by-pass Congress and seat whomever he chooses. No, wait, on second thought a balance of power is probably better in the long run. I'm willing to settle for the best Obama can do within the current system. His best is pretty good, even if it turns out to be a federal judge from Harvard or Yale.
